A forty-year-old barn roof that now runs the milking parlour, the cold room and the 5am start.
The brief
Tom’s dairy uses most of its power between 4am and 8am and again at milking in the evening. The barn roof faces south-south-east.
What we fitted
Sixty panels on new purlins, a 25 kW three-phase inverter and a 20 kWh battery sized to cover the early milking.
Twelve months on
Grid import is down 61%. The farm claimed the TAMS solar grant, which brought payback to just over six years.

In their words
That barn roof did nothing for forty years. Now it runs the milking parlour, and the battery covers the 5am start.
